Here’s 17 of my favourite shots from 2017, in addition to my thoughts on the past year and some of my goals for 2018. Spoiler: I’m super psyched to have already ticked off some of these!
Thoughts on 2017
This last year has felt like somewhat of a transitioning period, in multiple respects. First off, I learned ever so much about the use of light. It has become the guiding factor in many of my strongest images. In addition, I really worked hard on improving my retouching skills, while also switching from Lightroom to Capture One to do RAW conversions. This may be getting a bit too technical, but I feel that the latter does so much better in rendering gorgeous skin tones, colours and contrast and lends a more high-end feel to the shots.
What’s more, I discovered what I want to be shooting: athletes and other people who work hard and are dedicated to realizing their dreams. I want to shoot their lifestyles, the action and their portraits. I want to help both athletes and brands showcase their convictions, ideals and characters. I want to do this both in real world scenarios and in set up settings that serve a more campaign suitable look.
What’s in store for 2018
For 2018, I’ll be working hard to further improve my retouching and color grading skills, shoot even more personal work with athletes, and show brands how my work can help them, both for content and for campaigns. One goal that I already tackled early on was getting my print portfolio finished. I now have a gorgeous large size book to show my work to potential clients.
Here’s the 17 images I promised, in addition to a brief description!
